Extractions and Implants

Extractions  One of the main goals of modern dentistry is the prevention of tooth loss. All possible measures should be taken to preserve and maintain your teeth because the loss of a single tooth can have a major impact upon your dental health and appearance. However, it is still sometimes necessary to remove a tooth. Here are some of the reasons a tooth may need to be extracted.

    > Severe Decay
    > Advanced periodontal disease
    > Infection or abscess
    > Orthodontic correction
    > Malpositioned teeth
    > Fractured teeth or roots
    > Impacted teeth

Keep in mind, once a tooth has been removed, it typically requires replacement.

ImplantsImplants  An alternative treatment to lost teeth by removable partial or full dentures is replacing teeth with implants. With dental implants, we can restore a single missing tooth, several teeth or an entire upper or lower arch. Implants are bridges that are permanently anchored into the jaw. Some of the benefits of implants are:

    > Speaking, smiling and laughing without worrying because the new teeth are firmly supported and feel like your natural teeth
    > Renewed eating habits
    > No overnight soaking or adhesives
    > Regaining full function without damaging your remaining healthy teeth
    > Maintaining bone levels and protecting your jawbone from further shrinkage and deterioration
